HYMERA, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) โ A downed tree hit a gas line and caused the evacuation of Hymera Elementary School Wednesday.
According to Northeast School Corporation Superintendent Dustin Hitt, at about 12:30 p.m., a large tree was blown over into the school, which resulted in a gas line being broken.
โWe got the students out of the building and then loaded them on school buses. They were taken to the Hymera First Baptist Church,โ Hitt said.
All students were safe at the church in 40 minutes, he added. The gas has been shut off at the school.
โEveryone did a great job getting the students and staff to safety,โ said Hitt.
Hitt said families were notified.
โParents will be picking their children up at the Baptist church,โ Hitt said.
